"Trading" birds???

Postby rebeccaturpeinen » Wed Aug 25, 2010 2:10 pm

I live in denmark and have found it hard to find usefull information on parrots and parakeets... there seem to be enough people that own them but people seem to just keep them outside like they are not "real" pets and should never be inside.

Than I was looking into a friend for Joey and there were all kinds of crasy adds like "I have a blue birds, anyone wanna trade for a red one" or an add where someone has a parakeet for sale and someone asked what colour it is, then they answer its green and then they write back "I already have a green one, I am looking for a red one".... like they are collectors items or something!!!!

I just think its so sad and it makes me angry... what kind of person trades their pet because they are tired of the colour???? I was really suprised by how many adds where like that..... :(

a stupid one...

I commented on collectors in another thread. It is a pity that people think of animals as things and not a living creature. I get being in the market for a specific color of bird... but not trying to trade it for something else! Or trade them at all! For a boat or a bird or a cat or whatever, I hate how some people view them as stuff to be owned.

There are a lot of people with this exact view of their spouse and children, like you can just replace them

Why can't people stick to collecting coins or cars... these are living creatures.

I saw an ad like that the other day! They wanted to trade their blue budgie for another colour!

I love my pets, I am huge into animal rights and I am vegetarian because I oppose factory farming and through all of this I have realized one thing. Until people can treat each other with respect, there isn't much hope for animals :(

i guess thats why no one was looking for Joey when we found him... he probably just escaped somewhere and they just figured, ´we´ll just get a new one then´...

It could be breeders. I trade my offspring with offspring of friends of mine. This way I keep my bloodline fresh and I can collect some nice and shiny colours too

But those adds do sound a bit superficial :?

I can't stand people like that. I have a neighbor who got parrots just because he saw mine. One week he had 1, the next 3, the next 6, then 10, then 6 again, then 12, then 9. Every week it was a different number, and he even bred them. In the end he got rid of all the cockatiels and parakeets and got 2 conures. This all happened in less than a year. I'm sure he'll get tired of the conures, too, but for now he's content about boasting how his parrots are larger than mine. Needless to say we're not friends anymore.

Oh, and he thinks of his kids the same way and doesn't even talk to half of them anymore.

By trying to bring some humour in the post, some people might consider that I'm "collecting" Poicephalus ;)

Eh I can't help it if they are the perfect bird for me :D

Yeah well, as long as you wont trade Pixel for a Cape and Zuri for a brown head, I think we're ok with you  ;)
