Growing Independence?

Its a weird title and topic for me.. I was just wondering. Does a clipped bird know they can fly once their flight feathers start growing in? I'm kind of surprised Jasper (my first)hasn't tried flying once outside the cage he just stays on my shoulder. Not to draw comparisons but my budgies always used to jump at the chance to attempt flight even when they were clipped. Are my s just that different?

No. They don't seem to know. They get so used to not flying that they don't bother trying. Eventually they figure it out but only when they get into situations that require flapping and they realize those flapping things actually work.

Agree!!!! It took forever for my tiel to figure out he didn't have his wings clipped! He is doing much better. Have you seen Michael's vids and training on how to get an older parrot flying? Very helpful!!!

Pippin has always flown, even with his wings clipped.

I think Nicodemus must have had a severe wing clip because even when they are grown out, he refuses to fly anywhere. He leans his body as far as he can towards where he wants to go as if he's steering me. I guess it works cause I always take him where he wants to go. But I always tell him, "you're a bird! You can fly! Go over there yourself!" Maybe he's just lazy?

You all know that Kika is clipped, but somehow Kika doesnt. He keeps trying and crashing....
I think once his wings are grown back he wont even need a day to find out they work.

Haha true thanks guys. Diamond on the other goes into flying fits where she just suddenly starts flapping really really fast and doesn't stop till she's fallen on the floor and messes up her tail feathers or I catch her. Usually I do but when the latter doesn't happen first I feel bad.
