A few episodes of Frasier had some sort of cockatoo (yellow crested?) named Baby. Again, unrealistic portrayal as Baby had one stand with one perch on the stand, no food/water dishes... and dubbed voice for when the bird was supposed to be talking.

LOVE HAPPENS with jennifer aniston and the guy from the dark knight (harvey dent - dont know his real name) - they also have a sulphur crested cockatoo and it's pretty interesting what happens with it. it will actually make you angry but then you see something at the end to make yourself feel better about it. lol i don't want to give it away so it's hard to explain.

I was skimming channels yesterday. In a movie called Over Her Dead Body I saw a blue crowned conure.

This link has some pictures from the film. Two of them show the parrot.

I'm surprised no one has listed "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill". It's a documentary about this homeless/ hippie man who somehow managed to bond with the group of feral cherry headed conures (plus a blue crowned conure). It's really touching, and made me cry :)

I've been watching Big Love on and off. Anyways, the grandmother is crazy so I think she breeds parrots. Whenever I see the newer episodes I see her in a small cramped apartment filled with birds.

There's this kids show called 3rd and Bird. Its main character is a lovebird and it features a toucan, cockatiel, and various other birds.

Isn't it cute?

Parrots in Film and Television -- and books?

Postby entrancedbymyGCC » Tue Oct 26, 2010 10:07 pm

How about books with parrots? I'm thinking the market might be ripe for a mystery series featuring a sleuth with a parrot... or a sleuth that IS a parrot. I am reading a Long Island vet series and the vet has a macaw named "Prometheus" but I don't get the feeling the author really has a feeling for birds. She gets some things right, but the picture isn't quite there, and the bird is a very minor character so far. Rita Mae Brown's two series have animal characters including birds, but the birds are wild birds. Still, she has a great feeling for animals and what she writes is plausible and way short of cutesy even when in the animals' voices.
