I am reading a Long Island vet series and the vet has a macaw named "Prometheus" but I don't get the feeling the author really has a feeling for birds. She gets some things right, but the picture isn't quite there, and the bird is a very minor character so far. Rita Mae Brown's two series have animal characters including birds, but the birds are wild birds. Still, she has a great feeling for animals and what she writes is plausible and way short of cutesy even when in the animals' voices.
