Just saw a Walmart commercial on television that had an amazon parrot in it. The cage was too small but it didn't look that bad, wasn't like the typical circular ones. The cage would probably be suitable for a conure or typical poicephalus parrot.

There's a scene in "Pride and Prejudice" (the one with Kiera Knightly) when the character Elizabeth goes to visit her friend and they eat dinner with Lady Catherine who owns the parsonage where the friend stays. The lady had a few parrots and one of them was a cockatoo. At one point Elizabeth goes up to the cages and watches them for a little while.

EDIT: found a video that shows a few seconds of her time at the cage. (it is right after the note at the beginning of the video.)

Just watched Love Happens a few weeks ago with Jennifer Aniston. Her love interest in the movie tried to fulfill his dead fiance's wish of setting her parrot free. The setting of the plot was in Seattle. He steals the bird from the dead fiance's parents and drives out to the forest. He opens the cage (which was a round dome top void of toys and one perch), and with encouragement from him the bird flys out. It was a horrible. The last scene in the movie the bird flys back to her father who is getting the mail from his mailbox at the curb of his house. He takes the bird and walks back in the house. What? Are you kidding me? Ugh!

I was listening to NPR the other day about a new movie "A Bird of the Air" one of whose characters is an Amazon parrot. The movie's website states the premise of the movie "A parrot and a librarian upend the well-ordered life of a solitary man".

I was watching Project Runway last night and during one of the commercial breaks they showed an ad for L'Oreal Paris's new limited edition makeup line called "Colors Take Flight" - basically 4 makeup sets and color palettes, each based on a type of bird: Cockatoo, Amazon, Raven, and Owl. These 4 birds were actually in the commercial alongside their corresponding palettes.
I looked and looked for the ad and couldn't find it. However, there was an entire episode of the Project Runway show in which the competitors had to create fashions based on these birds.
Watch it here:
Project Runway: This is for the Birds
The birds appear about 3 minutes into the video. I didn't watch the whole thing so I don't know if they show up during the entire show or just at the beginning.

I took a glance at that. I have no idea how they went from some gorgeous birds to that ugly junk they came up with.

After posting that, I did end up watching most of the show. I was a bit appalled by their reactions to the birds, and that one of the designers hated the idea of creating something based off the Amazon because they thought green was an awful color! I think only the white dress with the feathery material looked remotely inspired by the birds. The rest did not look anything at all like they were based off a bird, and I cannot imagine anybody wearing what they created... I am always confused by the term "high fashion" because most of the clothing that fits that description looks ridiculous and is only worn by size 2 models who cannot offer their opinions on it.
But still, it was kind of nice to see such beautiful birds featured on popular TV.

Last night I was watching "The Wizard of Oz", and at the very beginning of the scene with the talking apple trees, Dorothy and the Scarecrow are walking down the Yellow Brick Road and the Wicked Witch hides behind a tree that has a toucan in its branches. I've also heard that while they are oiling up the rusty Tin Woodsman, a peacock is wandering around near his cottage, but I don't remember for sure. I know neither of these birds are parrots, but some people do have toucans as pets. :)
