Maybe not. Scooter does the most talking when he's in my keyboard drawer. The echo may help them "practice". Bill's mom's bird used to put his head in his bell for this. But GCCs are hard to understand... Scooter fairly often makes sounds that have the rhythm of speech but are completely unintelligible. "Scoo-bird", "Pretty Scoo-scoo" and "What's up?" are the only ones I can routinely work out. OTOH, Scotty clearly learned "Hey birdie" from Scooter -- he says it like Scooter would only louder, with a buzzy slurry qualilty his other speech doesn't have, but I rarely have heard Scooter use the phrase.

Haven't given it much thought, i don't think any of the amazons say their names except the ones we named because of what they say ie; Scoooooooobeeee and Ruuuubyyyy kind of cute, anyway they know the names of other birds and the dogs but i don't recall any of them saying their own names, even Jake my 40 yr old pet , who has never said her name even though she knows it.Wonder why that is ?
