fire scare

Postby TheNzJessie » Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:08 am

not last night but the night before i was sitting in bed with my laptop and i smelt a very strong plastic melting type smell i walked out of my room and could see smoke coming out of the roof and my parents were on the way down the hallway to tell me to get out were calling the fire brigade. i franticly attempted to put my lorikeet and budgie in travel cages but only managed to get my lorikeet in one and ended up grabbing my whole budgie cage.

the fire brigade turned up and opened up the roof of the house and smoke filled the house bt what had happend was the hrv system had blown a peice of pink batts into a fuse which smoked up bad. he said we are lucky it didn't fully catch fire because it was close to it.

this has made me realize that i ahve no exit plan that includes my birds. im now currently working training Jango to go into the carrier on command to make things easier. we are down to getting jango and the budgie into smaller cages in 54 seconds was our best

i wanted to share this with people so this type of stuff does happen and if you were to discover a fire are you able to get you and you're birds out safely?

both birds have had vet check ups to make sure the smoke did not harm them. they have a clean bill of health.

Wow, that must have been scary! It sounds to me as if you kept your head and did all the right things, and I'm glad both birdies are OK!

Reminds me that we need to update our earthquake box. Everything is out of date and there is nothing for the birds in there.
