Australian Floods

Postby iknowwhatiknow » Tue Jan 11, 2011 3:44 am

I don't know if you guys have heard at all about the crazy floods that are happening in Queensland at the moment. The official death toll is ten, but there are still 78 people missing, and it's going to get worse before it gets better. 75% of the state (which is huge - seven times the size of the UK) has been affected by the deluge, and 6500 properties are underwater, with 15000 people affected.

If you were that way inclined, you could donate here: http://telethon.smartservice.qld.gov.au/

This is some footage that's floating around that is absolutely terrifying. It was taken yesterday. It's a guy on the second floor of his office building watching cars get washed away. The footage at the end shows where the cars ended up, it looks like some bizarre type of modern art.

It's so sad :(
I saw footage today of a middle aged couple wading waist deep in water struggling with 3 bird cages and trying to save their budgies and parrots...I pray they, and all the others, make it to safety.
