The joy we get from the little birds we rescue is a bi product of our concern and care for them. I never ask anything of them.
I was scrapping poop of the baseboards in the Cockatiel room. Since the surgeries prevent me from bending very well, I was on my hands and knees. Phoenix walked up to me and it was like he was inspecting and saying "you missed a spot". I couldn't help but laugh. After being mutilated this bird would have every right to not trust humans again. I love him so much. He is so special but then I think they are all special.

The really are special, and I find all birds are smart too and I love them all. In the summer in my yard, i had a robin who would run into my sprinkler to get the worms that were comming up. After a while, he would come and chirp at me to tell me it was time to turn on the sprinkler. I had a family of quails who would spend some time in my yard before moving on. The neighborhood cats were alway catching the baby quails, so that was their worst enemy. I would chase the cats out of my yard when I was outside so they had one place they could dust bath the way they liked and feed their family in peace. The quails got used to the parrots and the parrots loved to watch the quails, and it was a very pleasant summer.
