If a macaw, not so appealing all of a sudden.

Zaza, what attracts you to the Australian parakeets? Is there something special about them that separates them from other groups of parrots?
Unfortunately I find bourke's to be highly unattractive.

Unattractive? I think they are sweet looking. Especially the rubino colour mutation.

All of the australian parakeets I've met are just the sweetest things. They all make lovely sounds, and I find they tend to be less aggressive. I also love all their colorations.

Of course I do have a few more rowdier species on my wishlist. I'd love to have a Galah, a rose-crowned conure and a female red belly.

We seem to have gotten a different species of bird for our personalities.

:greycockatiel: for the softer side - Stryder is the sweetest little bird, and all he really wants is hugs and kisses. He's got a little bit of spunk to him too!

:gray: for the observant side with a bit of crazy when he starts going on his silly rants. Merlin's cautious, yet fun loving. And boy is he ever obsessed with Husband! Some days I wonder :D.

:bcaique: just kind of happened when his breeder was going on vacation, Rosco didn't have a home yet, so I babysat him for the week, and due to his fun loving and care-free nature, he never went back.
He really is at the top end of my persona spectrum, and totally different from the other two, but we make it work.

I do love the Pionus, they're so sweet natured, and once they come out of their shell, have a lot of personality - they just choose whom to share it with.

The Bourke's are beautiful, but I don't have much experience with them.

And I wouldn't call the Poicephalous parrots soft...they have a lot of energy, spunk, and attitude - and are a lot of fun to hang out with :)

I would like that anyone who thinks that Meyer's are "boring" to come and have a look at my two - I do believe that Zuri IS my most active bird...

No, Poicephalus parrots are anything but boring! When I was considering getting a third bird I decided to stick with the poi's because my Red Belly and Senegal are full of personality. Kylie, the Meyers I got in October is definitely my quietest bird, but she's got the cutest little personality.

I think it is more a personality match issue than an absolute. What one person sees as "softer" another might see as "subtle and complex". I don't think it is a black and white sort of thing, I think it is more poTAYto poTATo.

Bit like people with horses. Some think Arabs are flighty empty-heads and others think they are bold and intelligent. They aren't particularly my cup of tea, but I recognize that they can be fine horses in a compatible pair of hands. In that case, a lot of is down to how the human interacts with the animal, not the bloodlines of the animal.

On top of that, you can always wind up with that one individual who is the exception that proves the rule.
