I know TheNZJessie is from New Zealand, but her profile says she is from Auckland which appears to be quite a distance from Christchurch where the earthquake hit the worst.

I hate hearing about natural disasters like this one. Makes me very appreciative to live in a fairly neutral part of the world when it comes to natural disasters.

Hi everyone. I am in Christchurch and can just witness that this was a lot worse than the previous quake in September. My family and I are all well, and we, as a city, appreciate your thoughts and prayers very much. Our birds are reasonably OK except for our 'tiel whose cage fell off its stand, the cage completely disassembling! We later found the bird sitting on the couch. :-)

Regards, Anneke

Glad you are OK Anneke! I'm curious how your birds are handling any aftershocks? I had my rental apartment seriously messed up by the 1994 Northridge quake -- I was out of town, but my two cats were in the apartment and my friends who were taking care of them had to dig them out of a pile of furniture and books and stuff. Fortunately they were unharmed, but all three of us were jumping at the aftershocks for a while -- and I was right off tall furniture for about 15 years.

Well the evening after the quake, the 'tiel was quite jumpy and got a fright after each aftershock. The 2 budgies, though, are all right. I haven't noticed any strange behaviour from them, at least...
