I have a 20 year old Double Yellow Headed Amazon that I rescued 5 years ago. I would like to rescue another. I do not want to buy from a pet shop. Do you know of one who needs a home. I am in NC but willing to travel.

The adage "you get what you pay for or it's hard to get something for nothing" apply here.Word of mouth is your best chance and you need to make lots of contacts, maybe join some bird clubs or volunteer at a rescue/rehomer near you, foster birds for the animal shelter, that sort of thing. If paying 500 or 1,000 dollars for a bird seems like a lot maybe you don't have the resources to home several amazons as one vet visit can cost that much and rehomed birds normally have plenty health issues and at least need a wellness check before bring home to your pet fid. Be careful, don't get into too big of a hurry, and good luck. PS i realize i'm answering some of your emails online, but feel like others out there might need to hear this as well.

Another source might be local vets, mine refers people with unwanted birds to me .AS there's no rescues near me i drive birds over 250 miles oneway to get to that lady i recommended. But same deal , she's got rent, electric, food, vet, and lots of time invested in her birds, she 's great and does a first class job with her birds and is the only person i give birds to.
