Cheney Bird has destroyed the phone cord in the three days I've had him. He's also taken chunks of skin out of my finger and thumb, and is working on piercing my ears.

I vote flesh wounds don't count as destruction unless fitting of a prosthesis was required!

By the looks of my index finger, we're getting there. I only have two fingers on my right hand that don't look like I've been chewed alive.

And he's SO good at not getting in trouble for it, too. When he does it, he's trying to get me scratch his neck when I'm not paying attention and I don't think he realizes that he's biting a bit too hard. So I feel bad punishing him because I love that he wants to cuddle! :(

Scooter, who I had pretty well trained to handle me gently, has figured the same trick out, although he pulls his punches even then. If he is out with me and I'm on the computer and I get really absorbed in something, He will often pop out of they keyboard drawer and give me a sharp nip to get my attention. Unfortunately it works, so it is self-perpetuating. But he only really bites hard enough to draw blood when he's in "angry bird" mode, the nips are uncomfortable but not damaging.

Since he's motivated to be with you, I think it should be fairly easy to modify that behavior. But you'll need to pay 100% attention to what's going on when you handle him for several days or longer. In the mean time, buy stock in bandaid companies...

I think he's just happy to be out of his cage and with someone that wants to pay attention to him. He was pretty nippy Sunday when I tried to put him in the cage, but I chalked that up to being in a cage all the time and not being sure he'd get to come out again. Saturday he was a lot gentler and only bit hard enough to make me bleed twice.. which was mostly my fault because I pulled away and it ripped the skin.

Today he's been "kissing" where he bit when I tell him "[he] gave me a boo-boo." Now he'll just nip when he wants me to pay attention and I'm on the phone, so we're making progress.

Now if only I could get him to stay in his cage for bedtime! He likes to sneak back out of the feeder doors if I cover him for bed and he's not ready to sleep. So now I cuddle him to bed for an hour and he generally stays in for the rest of the night.

Clearly he's being more successful in training me than I am in training him.

Cupcake pulled the space bar key off my brand new keyboard the day I got it. Thankfully it went back together. I have since found a free keyboard to let her pull keys off of.

She has started destroying my desk - thank goodness it is only a $30 one! She has ripped up the leather iPad case I have in 2 places...thankfully that is all, so far!

Skittles the lovebird has ripped up countless books, including collector's edition ones from when I was a kid. Needless to say I don't keep books where she can get to them if possible. She also has ripped up a DVD case.

All 3 of them have pooped on mirrors and pictures on the wall at one point or another. Twink has ripped up a windowsill ledge.

Wow....my boy is an angel....
Wild animals are called 'wild' for a reason. Keep them that way. Adopt your pets, or buy them from a certified breeder.

:o  :?
From what you write I have impression that my budgies are super angels. For about 3 years they were allowed to be outside cage 24/7 and didn't destroyed anything accept their toys, play-gym etc. Maybe because they are budgies...
On the other hand Chico is so loving everything to eat, that in the future she'll probably destroy a lot of thinks to keep balance at home ;)

Question....how is it all these birds were allowed or able to destroy things?

Do you let them have free reign of the house?
