they have such strong personalities.

Well, ya! They're currently still bulls!
Some of my baby boys goats are just rowdier than others and I look at them, "Oh, those man marbles gotta go soon!"

Is there the show Fatal Attractions televised in your area? They had an episode about people getting killed by their pet cattle.

Wow, I feel like I showed up really late to a lunch date! Everyone has already passed around their pictures and discussed what they would (or absolutely would NOT ;) ) order, and I need to catch up!

After reading everyone else's contributions, I find that I'm pretty much hold the same views as Entranced. I grew up in North Texas and Oklahoma and my extended family are all country people. So while I spent most of my time in the city, my roots are pretty rural. As a result, I have no problem with raising animals for food. I don't know if I'd play with them a bunch, but I'd take excellent care of them, and yes, I probably would name them - but their names would be T-Bone, Ribeye, and Hamburger (or something similar). ;)

As far as my diet, I was raised on a diet of good 'ole Southern Cooking. Meat, potatoes, and whatever we pulled from Grandpa's garden. I love the food, but have come to the realization that a diet of red meat and fried everything isn't good for me. Over the years, we've modified to a healthier, more plant-based diet, though let there be no mistake - it's in no way vegetarian. I've had venison, elk, alligator, squid, seafood galore, and far more that I've forgotten about. Most of it I've really liked. I've tried ethnic dishes that I don't remember the names of... some I've really liked, others made me, err, regurgitate. (And not in the parrot way!) For the most part, I'm willing to try anything once. What ends up turning me off to certain foods is usually the texture rather than taste. I simply cannot STAND slimy foods. (A banana with any brown on it is slimy to me, if that tells you anything.)

Thinking back to High School, if you promise not to tell anyone that it's been 25 years since I graduated, I'll confess that if I remember correctly, I remember dissecting some kind of eye, a rat, and a cat. One of the mammals may have been in my freshman year of college, I don't remember. As far as any of it bothering me? LOL! I've been a nurse for 13 years, and was a surgical tech before that. Cutting into things has never ever been a problem for me! The only thing I didn't like about dissection was the smell of the formaldehyde (or whatever preservative they used). It gave me headaches that lasted for days... and still does.

Finally, the calves are SO cute! I love them when they're babies, just not so much when they grow up. Of course, I love ALL babies. I think mother nature made babies so cute so their mommies don't step on them when they cry and drive them crazy! Sad to say, I speak from experience!

I thought that one guy ended up surviving?

The older guy with the bull he took on car rides - I think he lived. The other guy who was trying to breed his own strain of cattle and was going in the enclosure with his breeder bull, he got killed.

Cattle look like they can be sweet, but I don't think they have a lot of brains in there.

Needs to be the show "When Parrots Go Bad" - could be a comedy or a horror show.

The smell of formaldehyde made me so hungry. I was so freaked out by it that I refused to eat anything for the rest of the day. I thought there was something wrong with me! I ended up asking my A&P teacher whether that was normal or not, and apparently it is really common.

Ohhh yeeahhhh!!! I forgot about the little lories! At least it's not noxious stinky poo! Then again, getting slimed isn't pleasant.

I won't touch that bet. I think only the chickens can out sling my Amazons.
