I had a cockatiel I named Rosie. I nick named her Pit Bull. She would clamp down and shake her head to tear out a chunk. It hurt but I didn't let her know it.

The only bite that drew blood was on my ear lobe. Rambo was on my shoulder and a man came near. Since he could not reach the man - he bit me.

Ouch you guys!!

I've never been bitten. I used to be phobic of birds actually til we came across a baby CAG in bad conditions, we rescued him, and he got me over it. The sweetest bird ever. None of my birds even know HOW to bite.

I had CAG's and a Umbrella Cockatoo, and they've never bitten me, anyone else, or eachother. I got them very young 6-7wks and I think that helped, as they never learned the behaviour ie biting gets whatever is irritating them to go away or stop, and I guess Ive been lucky enough to have birds that have been nothing but sweet.
I'm quite strict with all my animals, given that I'm 5ft 5 and have always had huge hoses (18hh+) and I breed St Bernard dogs too, so I think my strictness comes from having to make sure my animals have excellent manners. I'm the same with the birds and they are loved but never spoiled, I think that also helps too. They know where their boundaries are. I just have t say no and my birds stop whatever they are doing and walk away from it. Everyone says they are more like dogs than birds :)

The worst bite I've ever had would be from Tika, oh my goodness she hurts. The first few days we had them she would just grab hold and not let go, you'd have to pry her beak open, and then she'd bite the hand you'd just used to get her beak off you!! I'm so glad that stopped after a few days of getting to know each other. Oh the amount of times she made me cry, before her I'd never had a bird that got a tear out of me, I've had Tiel's fully attack my hands and can just pluck them off, but Tika would pick the most painful spots!

I haven't experienced too many terrible bites. Most of the badder ones were from birds other than my own. The worst ones from my own was when I had to do something they hated. Generally I've learned ways to make even the things they hate less bad so even for that the biting has gone way down.

But I'd lake to take a moment to remind everyone that parrots are still wild animals and not completely predictable so you should keep them away from your face. Even though they can be sweet and not bite 99% of the time, we have all gotten a bite at some point or another. The last place you want that is on your face. You could be holding the bird near your face when it gets freaked out by something and attacks the first thing it sees. It isn't worth the risk. Keep your parrot away from your face and make sure when other people hold it, that they aren't bringing their face up too close either.

Well I got mine on Saturday, while I was petting a GC Conure through the cage-bars at Petsmart. It was loving it, just soaking it up, then CHOMP, and it wouldn't let go until I (gently) squeezed it's toe! I should've known better, poor guy probably always has fingers being poked in the cage.

I haven't had too many bad bites. Mojo has broken my skin twice, but not by much. He got me good the other day when he was on top of his cage. He was being very hormonal and aggressive and I was attaching a toy to the top of his cage. Thought I had a few seconds to get my hand out of the way but he actually jumped/lunged at my hand (which he's never done) and clamped down hard. Before I could remember to control myself and not react, instinct took over and I jerked my hand back and he came with it. He ended up on the floor asking if he could step up in the sweetest voice. He broke the skin, but not very badly.

I do put my Amazon on my shoulder on occassion, usually just for a moment or so when I need both of my hands to grab something. I trust him but I always know there's a risk. In unfamiliar situations he is never allowed on my shoulder. At the vet yesterday he was scared and tried climbing his way onto my shoulder to hide behind my hair and he was upset when I wouldn't let him. He hates the vet and he can be bad for the "If you can't bite the one you want, bite the one you're with" so he's absolutely not allowed near my face in those situations.

I have found that the higher they are the more domanant they become. Myrtle is a timid sweet little girl BF Amazon. When she is on her rope she is fearless. She has not bitten me but up there she will clamp my finger. Rambo is strong willed. When he is up high he is in total control (or so he thinks).

There are times I have taken them down (with a fight on my hands) just to show them I am in charge. My mother has a fraze that she still uses on me: "I'm the mother your the kid". I catch myself saying that when I am asserting my authority. (My mother is 85 and I am 61.)

Myrtle has a cage on a table. I ordered one just like Rambo's to give them an even level. He is the domanant but resents her being higher.
