Not all female parrots will lay eggs.
But they can lay eggs without a male present. You will have unfertile eggs and that is it.

If interested in breeding, I would suggest doing lots and lots of research before hand, being aware of everything that can go wrong and possibly have another (good) breeder mentor you if it's still something you are considering doing.

Ok then!
Well you can't indeed assume a parrot is a male because no eggs have been laid ;)

As for DNA sexing, here is a page with some information:

http://www.healthgene.com/avian-dna-testing/

I used them in the past. They send you the kit to collect and they only charge you once you send back the samples and it's pretty quick :)

Rambo, my male Amazon, responds to women. He tells men off and tries to scare them so they will leave. I thought it was because he was raised by all women.

When I got Myrtle the owner did not know what she was - just called her Myrtle because she came from Myrtle Beach. She was sweet to all of us. When my son came over, the first man to come in the house, she made a fool of herself like Rambo does with women who visit. She is a girl.

She chattered to him more in 1 hour than she had with me in a week.

Does your bird respond more to one than the other?

By reading your post, I'm assuming that you are inferring that male birds respond better to women and male birds to females.

That can not be used as an indicator for determining the sex of a parrot.

For example, my one of my sexed female birds here respond much better to me than anyone else. One of my Meyer's, a male, is all about men and HATES women. The other four birds I have, 3 males and 1 female, don't really show any preference. In fact, my Senegal (hen) has two people she likes more than anyone else and that is me and my dad - so definitively no gender preference.

Preening each other is wonderful. It doesn't much matter what they are. A mated pair, girlfriends or two good buddies, whatever they have each other.

I only wanted a female in hopes that Rambo would accept her easier. He was an "only" and needed a friend of his own kind. She is making the effort to be his friend but he still pretends that he doesn't like her.
