[quote="liz"]Preening each other is wonderful. It doesn't much matter what they are. A mated pair, girlfriends or two good buddies, whatever they have each other.

Liz, I completely agree. I had Tico (Blue Front) DNA tested just because I was curious, turned out we had a girl. We are still looking for another Amazon chick (DYH or YN) to raise and be a friend to Tico. I especially like Amazons and have 86'd my husband's idea of a Macaw, just too big for us right now, as much as I'd like to raise one. That can wait until we get to the Keys in a couple years.

I'd like a Nape or DYH because I've really gotten into language and would like to see the difference between a female Amazon and a male. Tico's learning curve is cool, but I've heard the Napes and DYH are even better. BTW I fell in love with a Yellow Nape years and years ago when I worked at a Pet Shop (before I knew better), and this bird was unbelieveable...they wanted $1000 for him back in 1982! He did know quite a few words, none rude. I trained a really nice Senegal we got in that year that was not at all hand tamed, and within a few months he/she was hanging around on my shoulder all day at work. Of course he sold pretty quickly after that.

Oh well. This has nothing to do with eggs, does it? ;)

I am technology inpared and can't spell either nor navigate this forum. So don't ask me. Your profile does not say where you are. I am in North Carolina and a transplant from Pittsburg Pa. I was looking for an older bird when I found Myrtle (1 yr BF Amazon) to buddy with Rambo (DYH Amazon). In my searching I found many that needed rehomed. The ones in rescue shelters are worked with until they are back to health and socializing. One in particular that I remember is Hilda. She was given up because the owners were no longer able to care for her. She was healthy and talkative when they got her and has continued to progress. Her rehoming fee was $1000 with cage and toys. That is cheap.

I really didn't want to put out a $1000 at that time and I figured she was in a safe place and being loved already.

I opted for a bird quite a distance away. Her owner wanted to sell her and her cage for $300. That scared me. She was basically a throw away. She was skinny, dirty and silent. I have over a $1000 in her in a few months time but she is such a joy. Rambo pretends that he doesn't like her (but he always wants to be where she is). With good food free choice she has gained weight and become talkative. She loves showers and that combined with food she has become colorful and sleek. She is a joy. Everyone loves her and she love everyone.

Think rehome. And I really messed up the thread on "eggs".

i don't think you messed up....lol...it was interesting and we all can learn from others experiences
my 1st bfa was a rescue from a dubious breeder, willie is still aggressive and maybe the rest of his life, but i love him...the second was a rehome and he/she is timid but fun...i think it is far better to get a bird that is in need of a good home
