I think it is terrible to sell any animal in exchange for money in your pocket. To re-home them for a fee is a very different situation. It doesn't matter if it is a dog, cat, horse, bird, or whatever. The responsibility of the next home for that pet should always fall on the current owner. Sometimes a fee is necessary to weed out those people that are looking for a "free" animal. Animals of any kind are not just commodities. They are lives that have been entrusted to us to take care of. Every effort should be made to guarantee that they are going to a good home and not just moving on to anyone that can pay the price you're asking for it. I think that is all we are trying to say here. And, yes, "shame on you" is appropriate for anyone that is only looking to make a buck on the sale of a pet.

I don't believe in buying or selling any "being".
I rehomed two kids in my lifetime. One was a rescued chihuahua who was not happy being part of my gang. I found her a home with a father and son who treet her like the princess. She gets excited when she sees me but only because she knows that I put her in a good place. I rescued and rehomed a 4 foot Iguana. When I got him he was black. One day with me and he turned green. My neighbor took him for a few days while I was in the hospital and he turned gold. That is when I knew that he wanted more than I could give him. I found him a family with kids. He was treated like the family dog. He even went out to play when the kids did and came back in the house when the kids did. He was gold all the time.
I did right by those little ones.
I found a colony of 16 skinny ferel cats that no one was taking care of because they were wild. I fed them, tamed them and arranged for the Humane Society to fix them and give them shots. I found homes for each one of them.
My sister breeds English Bull dogs. I hate it and she knows it. If their were no breeders the animal shelters would be empty. There would be no unwanted animals because people would rescue or rehome. There would be no neglected or mistreated parrots. I have heard horror stories of parrots being closed in a room by themselves for years because they made too much noice.
That is my story and I am sticking to it.

To me, I see it as less of an issue because the animal is Worth it. If I had gone as far as I could with my horse and needed something bigger(god help us)/smaller/more trained/whatever then there's no way I could just rehome him and then buy a new one, I'm not that rich. There's a chance I could save up for a few years or get a loan if I found one cheap enough. I understand birds are more of a companion than a working animal, but I think it's beyond horrible and that none of you have the right to have the things you've said to this person whose just come in to ask a question.

I think Tila should have provided more info on why they "have to sell" the parrot. Many have been quick to judge, but I put the onus on Tila for not giving the true reason for the sale. Under extreme financial or emotional difficulties (need money for medical expenses or death of family member, they have no money, get my drift?) I can understand selling the bird to obtain money BUT if they are just selling it because they cant be bothered with it anymore, then I dont agree with selling it. If they dont want it, give it to someone who does and who will care for it as it deserves to be cared for. As Tila has never commented since original post, we can only guess reason for sale, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Thats my opinion

Okay Okay everyone calm down. Sellings is money for income. ReHoming is also an income to recoop money invested which could also include cage and toys.

ReHoming means you check out the person adopting it to make sure it will have a better life than you can give it.

People have to pay to adopt children don't they?

The woman I got Myrtle from charged me $300 for bird, cage and toys. To me she considered Myrtle a "throw away" because the cage and toys cost that much. When I saw her add, I contacted her immediatly and told her I was coming. I was there the next morning even though I had no info on the bird. It needed rescued before someone bought it because it was cheap and not because they had knowledge of birds.

When ReHoming the price should be high to start with. The people should give adoptive information. The ReHoming fee can be then lowered if the adopters are right. And all info on the bird should be in writing for the new owners to know personality, likes and dislikes, fears and favorite toys and food.
