When I got Myrtle she odviously belonged to the woman of the house who did not even care about her. I made her write a bill of sale just in case the woman claimed I stole her after I rehabed her.

Aww that's awful.
Echo seemed to be in good health, his feathers looked pretty and clean, he was really active and alert. He was goin through a little moult though, his downy feathers were kinda poking through his normal ones.

I got Echo yesterday! :senegal: We went and picked him up around noon, then went and got him checked out by the vet and she said he was perfectly fine except for a nail and beak trim.

Hes adjusted really well, a lot better than I had anticipated. He's been eating and preening just fine, and hes even been playing with his toys a little. Only when he thinks we arent looking though lol. He isnt afraid of the dogs at all, he just stares at them haha. I dont think our older dog, Bud, even knows he's here, he just lays around like always. But our younger dog, Nova, has no clue what to make of our new feathery addition. I think she thinks Echo is a toy and wonders why I won't give him to her. Lol. She'll stand by his cage and just whine and watch him, then look at me and whine some more. Its rather annoying actually. But I dont think she would actively try to get him, I think shes just curious bc she's never seen a bird so close before. It doesnt seem to bother Echo too much though, he knows he's safe in his cage, and he knows momma wont let anything happen to him.

Sorry I'm rambling, haha just thought ya'll would like an update :) I was going to post a picture but I have no idea how to put one on here.

Oh, I also have a question, is there any such thing as too much out of cage time? I mean, he doesnt have a problem going back into or coming out of his cage but I dont want to jinx it.

Your not rambling. We have been waiting to hear from you.

No - no such thing as too much out of cage. Just keep an eye on Nova. I am almost sure by your description that Nova knows the little pile of feathers belongs to you and has joined the family.

My dog Dakota (RIP) used to whine when the hermit crabs were in season and smacking each other. He wanted me to make them stop fighting.

Aww...
Well even as im typing this right now, Nova is standing in front of Echo's cage watching him sleep lol. I got a squirt bottle and have been spraying her if she gets too close, and thankfully she's picking it up well, she isnt whining too much anymore.

I'm glad that I cant over do it, I've been taking him all over the house and over to the neighbor's houses and he is just basking in the attention lol. That is until he gets tired, then he kinda growls whenever anyone picks him up. He hasnt really nipped at anyone, not even when the three elementary school kids next door all tried to pet him at once. He just sat there and even bent his head forward to show where he wanted it haha. The only thing is, if someone is petting him and he turns his head too fast they of course jumps back which scares him and just causes a ruckus.
but he knows who momma is, whenever he gets tired of being played with by my sisters or their friends or whoever he always picks up a foot and reaches for me. he even crawled down my sister's arm to come sit on my shoulder. :dancing2: I'm such a happy momma

Sound wonderful, Parrot Momma.

I hope you use a carrier when you take it outside. And be careful at the neighbors house. Remember that they are not as bird oriented as you and may be careless with the windows or doors.

Let Nova sniff the baby while you hold it. Pet Nova and tell her good dog. It sounds to me that she will bond with your baby. Nova may even become a bird protector. My 12 year old cat, Fancy, is a bird protector.

Let her sniff it but don't let her lick/bite it, obviously on the second count. Dog saliva is dangerous to parrots as it contain many more contaminants than birds can handle. If a dog punctures the parrots skin, it is actually considered a medical emergency.
