Jeff, please contact me personally. My brother works in Rockford and has other parrots. Perhaps we can work something out to help you. One thing that bothers me about the "surgical sexing" is that most birds these days aren't surgically sexed anymore. It is totally unnecessary because of DNA sexing, which is less intrusive. If this bird was surgically sexed, he would have a tattoo under his wing. Does your bird have one? It wouldn't necessarily be a number it may be something as simple as a black patch or circle. If he is tattooed, according to my avian vet, your bird is at least 20 years old. That may explain quite a bit about this little guy. Anyway, please contact me so I can help you.

Ginger,

He is surgically sexed and does have a tattoo. He is not 20 years old. I took him to the vet that did the surgical sexing. We do not have an avian vet in our area, but there is one that travels her on occasion. His name is Dr. Scott McDonald. Here is his website address. http://www.scottemcdonald.com/

Dr. McDonald is the one who did the grooming, health, and sexing of the bird. Do you have interest in obtaining this bird?

Thanks,

Jeff

Wow! That is a terrific website that he has. After I read his reasoning for surgical sexing, it makes sense. It appears that he offers the less invasive procedure and that he recommends that to his clients. But, when surgically sexing he indicates that he is most likely checking for other things too. Very, very interesting. So, I stand corrected and apologize for my statement about surgical sexing. I will be passing on this information to my Avian vet. I always think it is good for these vets to share information. The field of avian medicine is really in it's infancy, in my opinion.

My brother in Rockford is very interested in your little guy. I will send you a PM and we can chat.

I'm a researcher running a small biotech company that provides DNA sexing of birds as one of our services, and this can be done from feather or blood analysis.

If interested please see my website: http://www.bluetreedna.com

I'm also open to any potential free analysis to help non-for-profit bird organizations/sanctuaries.
