Wanted to update everyone. I got my ferret, Echo, a week ago. She's deaf (white faced w/ some silver) and was surrendered to the state and I adopted her from PETCO. She's 10 months old and just got her first set of shots and her first bath ever.
She's behaving like a typical deaf ferret - very cautious, not afraid of water, and doesn't understand how hard she bites. So far, she's only drawn blood twice - once when my roommate picked her up from behind suddenly, and another when I was cleaning her ears (the vet did this while she got her shot, I think she's going to have a negative association with ear cleaning for awhile).
Other than that, she's a sweetheart. The challenge has come that I can't clicker train a deaf animal, and the only trest she's interested in is vitamin paste, which I can only give sparingly.
When people ask how Echo gets along with Ace, I respond that they don't know the other exists. Ace gets put up when the sun goes down, and Echo comes out. They're never in the same room, and a series of doors and pet gates keep them apart.
