Road Trip

I'm thinking about taking my irn on a 4 hour road trip for 3 days. He's mostly comfortable with a harness, loves traveling, and is cool with being in a travel cage for a small amount of time. My concern is leaving him in said travel cage at a hotel for say, a 2-4 hour period. The rest of the time I will have him with me or be in the room with him.

The alternative is to leave him at home where my roommates will feed him but not really interact with him. Any advice on what I should do?

Put him in the bathroom with toys while you are out of the hotel room. Put a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Any towels you need replaced can be rolled up and put outside the door or just reuse what you have.

Yeah, and if the bathroom has tiles, you could even fix a happy perch on the wall for your bird. Just make sure to cover the toilet (we don't want any accidents )

Oh and hide the toothbrush and toothpaste. They like the taste of toothpaste and a toothbrush is a chew toy.

I take my parrot to hotels all the time. I put her in a small dog crate with her perch stand in it when I'm out of the room. I put her by the window where, hopefully, there's a view for her. She LOVED NYC. If you don't mind the thought of it, I suppose you could leave her in the bathroom as others have suggested here. The thought of that sort of makes my skin crawl, though. If your parrot gets noisy, cover the cage with something. I sometimes have to do that when my eclectus is cranky, which is just about every second of her life.

So I ended up not taking my irn because it turns out my sister would have wanted him confined to a travel cage for the whole experience. When I got back, I immediately had to be out of town again for the next three days and couldn't take Ace.

I was afraid Ace would hold a grudge when I got home (he held a two day grudge against me one time) but lo and behold, I actually came home to a well mannered bird that really missed me.

There is one downside though - my roommates said that he picked up chain screaming when no one is in sight while I was gone. He's done it a couple of times since I've been back, but I'm hoping with proper training it will go away.
