Thanks Polarn. Nope, nope nope {giggle}. Not putting my bird through that. Sterling silver is the only metal that seems to be safe for birds. I believe also that is what these band rings are made of. High temperatures not good for the birds. I wouldn't want my bird pricked again, and then again, for the DNA sampling thingy either LOL.

If we could just stick to info regarding how to get the breeder info from the band number, getting that info, and registering the band number to me with either the breeder or band registry (or both breeder and band registry), I would appreciate it. LOL.

I'm pretty sure most bands are aluminum or stainless steel and not silver. Actually never heard of one made of actual silver.

Also, once I "Will" out my bird; then whenever the Lord takes me home to heaven someday, I will also like to provide this info to who ever the second hand owner in the Will would be. This way, that person will then also register the band number to their info with the breeder and appropriate band registry. See? :P

Michael:

I'm gathering now that this is a yahoo group. Would I have to "join the group", then, in order to post as well as to search the band registry there?

Hi My name is Lesa and Welcome!! The purpose for this group varies 1.As a breeder this group is to record your band information which can help someone find you that may have obtained ...(more)

Refers to this link: http://pets.dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/ ... =dir&slk=6

Then there’s this one you provided, but it has a whole list of breeders, it looks like. And I wouldn’t know where to start. I looked for AAP, it’s not on the list.

There are so many links, it gets confusing, and I don’t know how to use them all. Eeek, it can get confusing. Isn’t there like one main national registry or something?

On this page, there’s a link for join this group. That’s probably why I was getting that message which was saying, “you cannot post to this group”, because I have to join it first in order to be able to use it.

through pampered peeps, I believe.

There is also the possibility that she is embarrassed to reveal the breeder. Not because of the money issue but because of where the bird came from. Could be a bird mill or something. Not that I'm saying it is a bird mill at all. It could also just be someone who breeds them in their home or something like that. Or maybe she is worried you will only get birds from the breeder and not from her anymore.

I have never had any luck finding out information from the bands. It's so hard. I think the breeders of the birds I have must not have been very well known breeders because I can't find anything on them.

I would be quite annoyed about not getting the information though. When I was a bratty kid I used to go into the pet stores in the village that sold puppies (all straight from puppy mills) and ask them what breeder the puppies came from. They always refused to answer and kicked me out once they saw I already knew.

This will come into important play, in combination with my Will and Trust set up for my bird

I am glad this information has been gathered here, as it's a work in progress.

To go along with this process, it helps organize great research links (database(s)) information for searching band numbers to breeders, etc.

Also, make sure - - - one of the most important pieces of documentation every parrot owner should make sure they have is the "Purchase Contract" for your parrot. If you don't have a completed one, including band number and signatures, go to the parrot shop where you purchased the parrot from, and get one! Make sure it is completed! This document is proof of your ownership of the bird as well !!!

QUESTIONS !!!!!!!! :danicing:
One time I was at the parrot shop, and I saw the owner of the parrot shop come in with a bin of baby birds she had just bought from her breeder she deals with. As she put the bin on the counter, I saw her then slip the bands onto these baby's legs!

QUESTION # 1: What does this mean?!?! as far as - - -
Could/Would she have gotten the bands, then, from the breeder when she bought the birds from him?

QUESTION # 2: Or would she have gotten them from a place which sells leg bands?

QUESTION # 3: Or would the breeder have been the one who bought the bands from a place which sells leg bands, and then gives the leg bands to the owner of the parrot shop who he sells the birds to?

QUESTION # 4: Which one would be the most probable way? In other words, how does/would this process work?

I can only ASSUME, the leg bands and parrots would come from one place, because it would be the easiest. This assumption would lead me to believe that the breeder is the one, in this kind of situation, who buys leg bands from the place(s) which sell bands. And then when he sells his birds, he also gives the bands to the person he sells the birds too, to go along with those birds. Is my ASSUMPTION correct?

Please explain in detail ! :danicing:

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so excited !!!!!!

I JUST MAY HAVE FOUND OUT WHERE BABY WAS BORN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN AUSTIN AT THE AMERICAN FEDERATION OF AVICULTURE (AFA) IN AUSTIN !!!!

WILL BE CONFIRMING !!!!!!! (HAPPY BIRD MOMMY TEARS - - LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

ALSO !!!!!! GREAT PROGRESS INFO ON THE BAND NUMBER/BREEDER/REGISTER PROCESS !!!

While talking on the phone with the manager of the office of the AFA, relating to my applying there to be a member (in relation to the Houston Avicultural Association!) - this manager informed me that generally, really there is only one way to register leg bands as the owner of your bird. That it is with the AFA ! Them directly !!!! Through them basically !!!

He advised be careful about being misled on this.

And that they're the main only exotic bird registry - national
who registers the leg band to you as a person, your bird's person.

He said he has 2000 birds, and he's also a breeder !!!!!

He wanted to know my leg band number, said that he may be my bird's father! , as he has sold birds to the parrot shop where I'd bought my bird from ! - and that he knows the owner of that parrot shop !!!! :danicing:

to be continued . . . . later steps in this project ! :hatched:

Anyway, this is a good step in the process, also because it is the AFA who also contacts listed breeders registered with them, through these band numbers, if a bird is ever lost or stolen, in my learning about the process. This is in the process of helping to re-unite the bird and their person, if a bird is ever lost or stolen.

This manager of the office of the AFA is a wonderful man. I am also joining to be a member of the AFA today! :hatching:

Maria, you're suppose to be able to get a Hatch Certificate, as far as a band, well I would of assumed this is pretty common in shops that the breeders have them banded.

Yes, I can certainly understand not having the breeders information, BUT go back to the shop and ask for a ---> HATCH CERTIFICATE

I hope you guys didn't get into it and have a fight, otherwise if things are good, there is no reason you should not be provided with this... ;)

CHEERS

P.S. Sorry if you got this already, I didn't read everything...
