It's a HUGE undertaking and not something I would recommend to anyone but those who are completely dedicated to the task. It can be incredibly rewarding and a great way to feel like you're giving something back to this drab world, but it is also incredibly time consuming.

I also appreciate your straightforwardness about the commitment to running a rescue. I would probably never be able to run a rescue. I also think that unless there isn't already a rescue in your area, it would be better to support the good rescues that already exist. Even doing something that seems small, like donating a bag of food or a package of paper towels is HUGE for an organization that is mostly funded by the people running it.

Something to consider is signing up to be a foster home. I know many humane societies around here have a list of people that have volunteered and been screened. Whenever they have a dog or other pet that has been rehabilitated and just needs work on training and socializing, they send it to a foster home until they can adopt it out. This way, you are helping a rescue to have space for the newer birds that really need the change of environment and medical attention. Also, because you would only be taking in one or two birds at a time, you would have more time to spend socializing and training each bird.

Go on websites that put birds up for adoption. Some people need to give birds away because they don't have the time to devote to them. They will give them free

No, the time and money it takes is beyond imaginable. The agency I work with is run by this lovely lady who always has about a million things to do as much as admire her I couldn't even imagine the stress. Most of her birds are adoptable, but several of the larger ones can't be adopted because despite the amount of energy and time she spent into getting them to allow her to handle them they still don't like strangers. (Which is kind of a problem)
She has a website and I think runs an ad in the paper, occasionally she does an event or two to bring attention . By now though she gets calls just because people have heard about her. Maybe at a vets office and I think the humane society sends over its bird rescues to her though I'm not sure. By now she has to turn down birds until she can find homes for the ones she has.
So I think I'll always foster birds and volunteer but I couldn't imagine tying to run an agency myself 2 conures is plenty of work.
