Oh I might also add a lot of the breeders around here is actually good at writing on their homepages what the minimum required cagesizes are for the birds they sell. something i would like all breeders here do just to make people aware of it even before they buy their bird and starts reading up on it, as soon as you do a search in swedish about housing maintainance or whatever you will stumble across "L80" wich is the text where everything is listed in... and i think most people if not prior to getting a parrot, instinctivly try to find out more about it once they get home, just to figure out that the cage they had bought and think looks large is only 1/4th or 1/5th of the size that their bird requires by law...
Oh might add that most of the macaws you see out for sale has cages that is way under the requirements, usually their not even legal for amazons or greys... anyways we prolly is the country with the most laws to break in the world. however i never find the cops to be really harsh about anything... if I get caught for speeding I usually ask em to remove the VAT wich is 25% and they just do so, making it a minor fine instead of loosing the licence or something (havnt been caught speeding since i was 19 i might add tho... ;)

He rescued a reticulated python from the brink of death. It was so skinny I could see all it's bones. It had sores all over it from other snakes biting. My son invested a lot of time, patience, energy and money to restore it to health. Then it attacked him. We are in NC but he found a woman in NY who could handle it. They met in the middle instead of shipping.

There are many snakes, especially poisenouse, that I don't think should be kept as pets. I believe that the ones that are scarey should be treated like guns. If one is let loose the owner can be found and punished.

That is just my opinion.

Do a quick search on the HSUS website for snake, reticulated or ball python are the exact same to them. Any reptile is a BIG NO to them and even a parrot in there own words is a WILD ANIMAL no matter the generation of captive breeding.

I suspect I am a bit more rebellious than most of the other members in this forum so I will do my best to be nice. First, I am VERY laissez-faire. I believe the less government the better(I work for the government and feel qualified to say that...lol) Historically, most legislation is a response to a problem or perceived problem that falls out of bounds of traditional laws. Unfortunately, this has overburdened the legal and justice system to a point that alot of the folks in these systems cannot keep up with the changes. My branch is still having issues complying with state legislative changes from 2 years ago! Some of the issues will be addressed again this coming session. When a person chooses to take a pet home, it should be a rational thought out "commitment", not a whim! I do not think we need additional laws to insure this though. It has been said I have a zoo. I have Llamas, wild hogs, chickens, cats, dogs, and exotic birds. I have owned snakes and routinely collect rattle snakes for folks. Sorry, but I have no great affinity for snakes and care not to have one for a pet ;) They do make nice boots  I run a constant battle with predators here in the country. I lost most of my sheep to mountain lions and coyotes. I once caught a baby bobcat in a live trap and raised it up to adult. It was NEVER a pet and I got it really young. What I am getting at is that with the decision to have ANY pet, you have decided to take responsibilty for that pet. Whether it is exotic or not. I purchased a Goffin Cockatoo for my wife. Sadly, it was a bad idea. She never stays committed to anything. I take care of him but I am pissed cause she got tired of him after the novelty wore off. I feel that happens alot with many pets. How many people get rid of a puppy after it becomes a dog? I get them dumped out here all the time. which leaves me having to take care of them or find homes for them. Some become very wild and must be destroyed. I take my commitments seriously, I only wish others did so as well. As to those that brought the gun debate into this. My experience is that most offenses are committed with weapons stolen. Most police officers are shot with their own weapon! Not a fact publicized very often. That is why the trend in teaching weapon retention is so important.
