feather crafts...

Does anyone else do anything creative with their birds shed feathers?
My sister loves jewelry and for her birthday I decided to try to be creative and make something using some of Chica's shed feathers. My first attempt at making feather jewelry, enjoy.

Beautiful job on the necklace and earings. I have been saving quite a few feathers from my babies but have not done anything with them. I have a coworker who makes jewelry and I was hoping to get her to put something together like you did. This is very inspiring.

I posted a link in the 'parrot art' thread about paintings on feathers. Nambroth on Deviantart does some absolutely GORGEOUS paintings on moulted feathers (usually parrot or goose feathers).

It's something I'd really like to try. The manager at the pet store here agreed to save any feathers that their DYH Amazon sheds for me. Thankfully, Nambroth posted a journal on how she treats the feathers to make it possible to paint on them, so maybe in the near future, I'll get a chance to try it out.

They're great little mementos for parrot owners, having a portrait of their bird on one of their bird's moulted feathers. This one is one of my favourites, along with the blue and gold macaw paintings. :D
