We just got back from camping over the easter break. with our eckie sheldon. it was his first camping experience and he LOVED it. he is normally quite noisy around feeding time but he didn't squark once while we were away. we took him to all the outside and animal friendly attractions and he got quite alot of attention which he loved of course! he got heaps of pats and cuddles too! it was a great training exercise for him and he passed with flying colours! we have a small travel cage.. it is about waist height that he basically only sleeps in all the other times he is out with us with his harness on of course!. we all had such a fantastic time that we will definately be taking him camping with us again!

Thanks for keeping him harnessed and not relying on the clip. Someone took a clipped parrot camping like that and he flew off in a breeze and headed toward a river. Luckily he got carried across (although they had a nightmare of a time finding him) but if he dropped short, could have drowned in the river.

I have photos of the cages we are using on my website. That size cage would work well with a Meyers too. They are light, rectangular cages. Make sure you get something that is easy to carry back and forth because you will be doing a lot of that...and cleaning.

Well the Meyers is not coming to live here now....I decided I needed to stick with the original plan of rehoming/adopting a MATURE (e.g. 10yo or older), who has been handled, as I don't have the experience to take on a young-ish bird without training. So now I am cultivating patience and keeping my eyes on the various adoption/sales sites....and indeed, I have set up a cage and playstand for the budgies to accompany me, and I hope they don't mind too much the 'downsizing' of their flyable area in the RV versus the entire house!
