Hey everyone thank you sooo much for all of your support!! :) I'm soo sorry that It has taken me so long to respond! So here's the deal.. I'm definatley going to keep him for a couple more months, but they said that I definatley have to give him away I don't know where exactly because none of my friends want a parrot and even if they did, I wouldn't want to put them in the same situation down the road.So for now I get to keep him, and maybe me and my parents could work something out :)

Shelby - do you have a crazy aunt (someone like me) who would take your baby in and care for it until you are able to take it back?

Do not put a price on your bird. If someone is interested in your add - talk to them and find out what they are like first. You could even visit their home if they are really interested. Treat it like an adoption. If someone sounds like they could really give it a good home you could put the price lower or sell them the cage and toys so you won't have to remember that you sold your baby. If you get a call and they offer you a low price or say they don't need cage and toys - hang up on them.

Oh, no! I'm not mad at all! :) In different areas the general attitude toward pet birds is different and I just wanted to explain a bit why I said what I did. I'm glad you put in your two cents about where you are. You have a very valid point about not setting an exorbitant price.

This situation is really so heartbreaking. :( I wish all the best for the two of you, skeetersunconure!

Oh - I just had a thought. Do you have any friends who have experience with birds, or willing to learn and take care of Skeeter for you? Maybe if a neighbor or friend took him in for a few weeks, you and your parents would be able to work through this. Maybe if they saw how much you miss him, they'd reconsider?

i really like Shelby's idea about talking to your friends parents, regarding a foster or joint ownership situation so you could still be with your skeeter. i am in mass. too far to be of any help but my thoughts are with you. hope you can explain in a adult, respectful way to your family what your bird means to you and work out a compromise. good luck :gray: :amazon:

Thanks guys! :) I have been thinking of letting someone take him until i can keep him again and I could go and visit him.. but the thing is I cant find anyone who would take him unless they clipped his wings and I just don't want him to be clipped! but there is this parrot rescue in Georgia (where i live) its about two hours away but i could still go and visit him and It looks really cool..they offer temporary or long term residence and you pay something each month but he would be able to live in outdoor aviaries and he would be able to fly and play with other birds and i think he would be really happy. Its called feathered friends forever http://www.featheredfriendsforever.org/

Talk to your Avian Vet. He might foster or know someone with a soft heart that would foster until you can have him back. I know I would help if I could.

I am looking for property in SC to move in the fall. So taking it now would not be good. It would be just too confusing for the little thing.

HEY - WHERE ARE THE PARROT PARENT IN GEORGIA AND SURROUNDING STATES. IS THERE NO ONE WHO WILL STEP UP AND HELP HER SAVE HER BABY?

Thanks so much! That means alot :) unfortunately... I still don't know where he could go, there are some people who could possibly take him but they would clip his wings and I can't do that to him. I'm really thinking about the feathered friends forever rescue though.. it seems like he would have fun there :/

Yeah, he would probably like the rescue. It's an aviary right? If it is then hell probably make a lot of friends there and have fun.

Darling, I really feel for you, and I do believe that feathered friends forever would be your best bet to prepare for now, IF you can't work it out with your parents for you to keep him. They sound perfect. As well, I had just happened to come across someone who works there, on another site. So, is that their only location? in Georgia? And it shows you're in Georgia as well, so local as you can is best. I will look up the info he posted, with the link about feathered friends forever. And I will post the info here for you, sometime over this weekend. I've heard nothing but good about feathered friends. After all, you can only keep him with you and your parents a few months, if they don't let you really keep "keep" him, and that few months will also give you time to work through, set up, and plan, his transition to feathered friends. And you could still visit him. Then, even, then, think about it, when you get your own place in a few years, you could get him back! :danicing: Make sure that feathered friends understands that you want him back with that plan, and that this is only temporary. Explain to them the situation. Make sure they know you want to have visits with him, and for them not to adopt him out. Ask questions as to how they would handle this kind of thing.

Do , PLEASE DO (and I know you will) VISIT HIM AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN. So that he will still have the bond with you. Or else, he may become a bit estranged to you, AND, and this way he won't feel you've abandoned him. And the key is, you want him shifted and bounced around from place to place AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. Keep him stable.

If it were me in your situation, I would DEFINATELY make it a point AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH, to MAKE THE 2 HOUR TRIP OUT THERE TO VISIT WITH HIM, AND DRIVE THE 2 HOURS BACK HOME!

It is true also, once a bird bonds with "their person", it becomes very difficult for them to be separated from that person.

If you have no other alternatives, this would be a good plan. Will be praying for you and your baby.

Love, Maria . . . . . .
