Anybody feel bad for budgies?

Personally I love budgies. How anyone can acquire one as a stop-gap bird I do not know. And anyone who would think in those terms shouldn't be owning a bird anyway. That's just my opinion, of course. I'm actually getting a budgie for my daughter tomorrow (mostly yellow and a hen we believe). It will be lavished with love, care and respect just like our Sennie. The links make for very sad reading Michael. The US trails behind the UK as far as animal welfare is concerned from what I've seen (and I have lived on both sides of the Atlantic). Even giving out fish as prizes has been all but banned here.

I can't believe anyone would treat any bird like that, keeping them in such cramped conditions.
I have two budgies myself, and they are a cute little pair. I don't plan on ever getting a larger bird, I think Budgies are adorable and I would never think of my two as mearly a starter bird. I hope to have them for a long time ^^

I walked into a flea market yesterday and a woman was asking a guy " Are budgies resistant?" the guy said "Sure!", took out a budgie, clipped the poor guy on the spot and threw him in the air, as you imagine the bird fllapped to no avail and hit smack on the gound, the guy picked the budgie up and showed it to the woman, it was just dazed, so the woman said "Ill take it" put it into a shoe box and bought the tiniest cage possible. I do feel bad about that budgie...
