paint is put on the walls not sprayed in the air but the fumes from that are still considered unsafe. I'm not saying febreeze DOES give off toxic fumes but not enough testing has been done so use at your own risk really.

I have tons of house plants! :) But none of the smelling kind! I have several Orchids, African Violets, Bamboo, Cacti, a Venus Fly Trap ...

What kind of plants do you have?

I have rosemary, thyme, basil, melissa, a couple of roses, and two lovebirds. :swaying:

We were learning about traditional Peruvian foods in Spanish class last week and my teacher mentioned mint. He says he grows it in his house and not only can you use it in food, but it also repels mosquitoes and flies and has a faint kind of fresh smell. I assume that if you boiled the leaves, the minty smell would spread throughout the house. The only bad thing about mint - it's a very invasive plant so if you grow it in your yard, it will spread everywhere!

How about a good quality air filter? Nothing harmful about that... Also, I find that air movement in my home is key to keeping the air quality up... stagnant air tends to not feel or smell as "fresh". I believe that good air circulation along with some fresh outdoor air can help immensely.

Piggybacking on an earlier post -- When I got my Jardine's and had to give up my beloved scented candles (*sigh* I guess that's best for my health too...), I started putting a couple of bags of Celestial Seasonings Cinnamon Apple Spice in a small pot of water on the stove and let it simmer on low. It's a strong, "homey" scent. I refrigerate the water between uses and the bags usually last for a few uses. I don't know if it will cover up the general pet odor enough, though.

It's a good question and I would like to know if anyone else has suggestions for a more floral scent that would be safe around birds?

I am extremely allergic to Febreze (and I'm a human at that!) So if I am, I would bet a small animal with a sensitive lung system would be too. NEVER use Glade. Those products are extremely toxic. Chemical air fresheners are bad for sensitive lungs. I feel like as an asthmatic I can safely tell you this. Probably the sensitivity I feel towards things are close to the way a bird feels. :]

There are toxic chemicals in the Febreze. Use natural scents only.
