Puffed millet

Postby Marnie » Mon Apr 30, 2012 11:37 pm

anyone try it? its a cereal i found at the grocery store. its just like puffed wheat, puffed rice, but its millet just like our birds eat.
i like it, its real low calorie, but it does have some tiny shells that get stuck in my teeth and you end up spitting them out for a while like popcorn hulls.
my IRN does not care for them dry but he loves them after they have soaked up a bit of milk.
it was his evening snack tonight :)

What kind of milk and how much milk?
I hear a lot about lactose intolerance in parrots.

Agree with zooey. No need to stop your parrots having it if they enjoy it though, you could use water or a dairy free alternative such as small amounts of rice milk instead.

i don't buy milk but always have the skim dry milk on hand. i just gave him a spoonful from my bowl. i would think the amt of milk he got was minimal.
i wonder if i should try the kashi whole grain puffed cereal. he might like that too.

As a health buff
Here s my suggestion
Homemade almond mild ( receipts on utube)
Soak organik raw almonds in spring water overnight
Throw into blender / strait throw nut milk strainer ( or a ladies nylon)
You can you the left over almond meal as a treat as well or make cookies etc...
Puff millet is millet grain air puffed ( like pop corn)
Also sold puffed kamut ( my GCC s love it)
Enjoy
