The hatred on this forum is horrible- and honestly I'm to the point where I don't think I'll return after this thread.

Zazu was 3 months old when she was weaned. She was weaned over a period of 4 weeks- gradually reduced feedings mixed with introduction of adult food and veggies. She was on solid food for an additional 2 weeks and increasing her body weight when I was allowed to bring her home. She eats more food than my male and is increasing her weight as she grows. She has never regressed weight wise. My husband is PJAC certified and he monitored her weaning progress before we brought her home. So yes she is fully weaned.

I will be trying several options in further depth in the hopes that things can turn around, but I am not willing to sacrifice my husband and I's happiness for my bird. Call that crazy or selfish or whatever other horrible name you wish- but its the reality I choose.

Okay, but the new environment may cause her to regress due to stress. Could you try comfort feeding ANYWAY to see if it gets any better?

We feed her a heated bean/grain mash each day in her veggie bowl- does this count or should I offer her a baby formula?

As I said before there is no hate, just people getting stressed because you will not consider other better options and you dont appear to be putting the birds welfare first.

Have you ever lived with a flighted bird? How do you know it would make you unhappy? they can be trained to potty and stay away from areas you dont want them to go. TBH it doesn't sound like your very happy at the moment so something isn't working out with your plan.

Feeding the bird is worth a go but zazu has been with you a while now so I doubt it is that, i would love to be proven wrong here for your birds sake.

I think the tone in some threads have gone haywire recently, but I think its important to recognize why. Its not just because of topics that are "debated" like clipping, or people throwing fuel to the flames, but a combination of people wanting to help, and people not always listening to advice given.

To have a constructive discussion, both sides need to be able to discuss and listen to each other. Just saying no or yes isnt going to result in anything.

Pomlover, I think you should listen to what people say. A flighted bird is a happier bird, more confident and it might actually decrease screaming. Also there are methods to deal with screaming like replacing the contact call with a more pleasant sound. It works. Dont give up on Iago or Zazu.

Really, just to remove some agitation from the forum I'd suggest that the little "Flighted" status under our usernames should be removed. I feel its used to judge people rather than help them. I am totally 100% pro flighted parrots, but I think we all should educate others as to why its beneficial instead of jumping at their throats ;), that will do nothing but scare them away.

I agree with most of what you said Cml, but some of the things I've read recently made me really cringe. Just because we are hidden behind Internet anonymity, doesn't justify some of the outright rude comments I've seen here. It's disheartening, and all it does is make the recipients defensive and leave. FFS, honey catches more flies than vinegar. This place has turned into a circle jerk.

I agree GlassOnion, I dont think its that far gone just yet, but I think we all need be alot nicer.
Some threads recently have been pretty bad though.

Jumping at new members who didnt know better than getting a clipped bird will, as you say, just drive them away. Better that we welcome new members, let them ask questions, and help them the best we can. After all, isnt that what the forum is here for?

I dont know what kind of schedule you have her on but try set feeding times and out of cage times.Caique babies are soo cute!!! Maybe with her attention shes regressed. You could try hand feeding [they will refuse it if they dont want it] along with her other food.Maybe starting over will work.Dont give up :D
