Hello all!
I am a member of my local roller derby team and I would like a science or a bird related name. In general roller derby names are edgy, punny, or "badass".
Bird names are not limited to parrots. I love ALL birds.
Science names, if possible, should focus on biology/genetics/ornithology. I'm not big on chemistry or physics, as they are not part of my degree.
Some I have thought up include:
Bill D. Nye
Jurassic Lark
One Fell Swoop

Michael, I like the idea of using the Latin very much. I do worry that it'll be lost on people who aren't as educated in the ways of birds, but I'm definitely going to work with that.
GreenWing, I don't think I get the context of Marshketeers. And it's a player name, not a team name, each player in roller derby gets a name. =)

If you wanted you could still use "Marshketeer" or -- more gaming than science-related -- "angry bird" and drop the "s"
