i think quality education for every single person living on the planet and eliminating world poverty is something we as a planet should strive for, and it will also solve the population puzzle. and we do need to reevaluate our consumer driven values that drives our materialistic culture.
and although humans may have wreaked havoc on the planet over the past 2.5 million years, since we became hominids, I think we are a great species, and I'm quite proud of a lot of things humans have achieved over the millions of years, as frail mortal beings with tiny lifespans. I'm proud of us as a species, even though we have made a lot of mistakes along the way. I think if humans really tried, using their vast brain power with the right values, they could solve the problems were facing on the planet.
I agree with this. Along the way, certain things have happened, including greed, that have really messed things up for Mother Earth (and ourselves). Viruses and bacteria are basically the Earth's White Blood cells... the planet can only handle so much of a growing world population before Nature strikes back and slaps us across the face with plague and disease.
I have hope that we can utilize science and use it smartly -- better than we have in the past -- for a better planet... and leave room for nature.
I realize some people are religious, but I find it incredible that we are all connected... as Neil deGrasse Tyson has said, "to each other, biologically, to the Earth, chemically, to the rest of the Universe, atomically." We literally rose from the Earth, and billions of years later, here we now are, damaging the planet which essentially gave birth to life itself, and I can almost feel the planet screaming. What's done is done, but science is our tool to make things right.
Why do people even need to have more than one, two kids anyway? I mean, is there even a need?
