I am not vegetarian, I am flexitarian. (and this is not in the choices above) ;)

what this means is we do not eat meat at home, we do not buy it in any form or cook it, but we do eat a lot of animal products (eggs, milk, cheese) because this is how we mainly replace the missing protein, along with beans and sprouts and stuff... etc etc.
we cook a lot of mediterranean and asian foods so even in recipes without meat there is always some kind of animal protein. :)

However, flexitarian means that on occasion when out if we "have to" we would order meat. Meaning if we are invited out to dinner, to a restaurant or someone's house, even though everyone knows we do not eat meat and try hard, sometimes they do wanna go to a steak house and then we would eat it. Yes, it does taste ok, we always make sure to order the best quality meat possible, at a higher cost obviously, and it is important that we abstract from visualizing where the meat comes from. :?
Besides, it's been 2 years we are off meat most of the time, so if we DO go to a damn steak house we can't even digest it afterwards! Oh my god, our stomachs are in sooooo much paiiiin!!!
Thus we go very rarely out to meaty restaurants....

I don't eat red meat, but I loves me some poultry!

So did my cockatiel, actually. Eggs and chicken were two of his favorite foods.

I like some of the justifications given here.

I've never been a big fan of chicken but I will eat it for the protein. I'll also eat pork even though I am also a mammal. I do hide my parrots eyes when cooking Cornish hen because one time while prepping my parrot said "that's a good birdie!" I draw the line at chicken feet or neck, it's just too easily identified to me. One time at the Chinese supermarket I saw "parrot" in the poultry section, I won't willingly go back to that particular supermarket after that.

I know, she is too funny sometimes. The cynical part is, I know she would crunch on the bones after if I gave her the chance. Lol

I love my birdies but you've gotta love your BBQ chicken! I'm a carnivore by nature, so I love turkey, game hen, pheasant, all the rest of it. But I could never eat my parrots. Nope.
