My Quaker parrot keeps biting his wing!!!!!

:monk:

I've had my quaker parrot for over 3 years. He is a male bird. Recently he has been biting his wing. Basically, he bites a specific part of his Wing and then starts chewing whatever he takes out. The top inside of his left wing is exposed and bald. But the other wing is completely fine. He hasn't bitten any other part of his body, and it just seems to be with this specfic wing. Is there a reason for why he could be doing this?.Right when he starts doing it, he bites me if I try to interfere(he rarely bites me viciously). Is there anything I can do to prevent him from continuing to do this?

Notes:
-He does masturbate.
- He seems to start biting his feather the most when he's about to put out his food. What he does is this
1. Starts fluffing up his feathers

2. Then he starts to look like he is reurgitating his food.(as if he's trying to feed some1)

3. Then he starts biting his wing and then takes a piece of the inside of it and starts chewing it.
- He is given a seed/pellet diet, with fruits every week or two.
- He doesn't bite any other part of his wing. Or even pluck his other feathers. It's just this part. And he always seems to do it the most when he's about to masturbate, or when he is about to spit out his food(in a way to try to feed someone). Or just out of the blue
- He is given a shower 1- 2 days out of every week

Other than this, he's never really had any health issues. What could possibly be happening?

Aw your poor baby! It could be a parasite causing the biting/barbering. Some other people on here probably have better advice on that.

As to the hormonal behavior I have a few suggestions because my parrot has been hormonal ever since I got her. When your parrot acts in a hormonal way, always ignore the behavior. Set him down, move away, don't give any attention. I would suggest strict bedtime to get a minimum of ten hours of sleep each night. Feed low starch veggies like bell peppers, broccoli, hot peppers, greens, reduce high fat food like nuts and reduce sugary food like fruit. Change the layout inside the cage, move toys and perches. Bring your parrot into new areas of the house, take your parrot in a carrier someplace new. This has cut down on hormonal behavior. Also if there are triggers, like a special toy, get rid of it.

As its so isolated I would say there is something irritating or causing pain.

Please get him to a vet to rule out all medical and nutritional problems as your first action.
You can then work on behaviour modification and environmental manipulation.
