Lorikeet Diet

Postby Cockatielsongs » Tue Feb 26, 2013 3:39 am

Okay, I'm planning on getting a rainbow lorikeet after I have read through and got down everything I need to know, but I'm kind of confused with feedingLorikeets wet/dry mix are you suppose to feed them both mixes? and is there a certain time you should give either to them? I'm so confused because I read one site, then when I read another is says something different... :rainbow: :/

hi there!

I don't know anything about lorikeet diets (theyre quite complex from what I've heard). there might be others on this forum who would have specific advice,

but i just wanted to recommend this book: Birdkeepers Guide to Lories and Lorikeets by Rebecca K. O'Connor:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_ ... ooks%2C225

I dont have a lorikeet and don't plan to get one, I just bought this book when i saw it in the bookstore because of the pretty pictures :) . But the book does cover very thoroughly the basics of lorikeet ownership, and has a lot of detailed information on diet. so you might want to check it out as part of your research.

all the best with your :rainbow: :)

Lorikeets diets are actually very simple they say feed wet and dry mixes but if you give just the dry the eat a bit and drink some water to make there own wet mix.

Other than the nectar powder it's just nectar flowers honey and almost any fruit with juice like apples, pears, strawberries and others and a lot of veggies.you should start them on a nectar pellet diet with the lory pellets you get from the pet shop because it stops the squirting there poop which they do because of there liquid based diets.

Lorikeets are 1 person birds but will bind strongly to you they are naturally Intollerent of other birds so keep other birds seperate.

Need any more info just pm me i own 2 rainbow lories and a luring scaly breasted lory
