Eclectus Poop- What is normal?

Postby ConEkatoolet » Tue Mar 12, 2013 12:35 am

I have noticed my male SI eclectus' excrement is much different than my other birds. He defecates much more frequently and it is usually the consistency of almost like maple syrup. Instead of there being a fair amount of white like my TOOs, p'let, and conure, his is more clear.

I can't find any pictures online that would show me what is normal for an ekkie. I know their digestive tracts are much more different than other birds, and he gets a lot more fruits and veggies than everyone else.

Otherwise he is completely normal, eats like a pig, and he has a lot of energy for an ekkie, lol. I am thinking this is normal, but I thought I would see what you guys say.

Found a little bit of info that may help...

He probably has more clear stuff because he eats a large amount of fruit and usually dunks all his food in his water before eating it, lol.

He does have the normal coil, but sometimes he does have diarreah poos, and I can assume that has to do with the variety of food he gets here- his previous home didn't have a lot of time for him and he ate heavily dyed and perfumed pellets (he gets organic here).

This website really stresses color change, foaminess, and change in consistency or volume to be concerns. He, in my opinion, poops a lot more than my other birds, but he also EATS a lot more and has a longer digestive tract, so I guess it makes sense. I gotta clean the guy's cage every other day to keep up with it, lol.
