Change in urate colour?

Postby marie83 » Sat Mar 23, 2013 7:03 am

Ok I've read online that the urates can be white, off-white or yellowish but all my birds have always always had white urates. The past two days Harlies has gone a weird yellowish colour, is this sudden change normal? Could it be to do with the fact she isn't eating that much?

I will of course report it to the vet but I would like your opinions in the meantime. Thanks :)

Yellowing urates indicate liver problems or excess bile production in most cases but I don't think this would happen in 2 days flat. Unless her liver is having problems breaking down the meds.Maybe a side effect of the meds? Is it yellow coloured at all? could probably be harmless side effect but definitely get the vet to take a look.

My cockatiels urates have always been white too.

Probably best to get vets advice or maybe ask them to consider asking for external help.
