IDDEX laboratories??

Postby aasiaafzal » Sat Apr 13, 2013 11:05 am

Does anyone here, know about IDDEX laboratories in uk?? how are they reputed?? i was checking their website, n they only mention livestock n poultry testing...they dont mention anywhere if they do exotic bird testing or not???

Actually i got a grey, n im in Qatar, n i went to a hospital here for baseline new bird testing, (they mainly cater for dogs n cats, still im unable to find an avian vet here), n they told me that they routinely send the samples to this lab, iddex uk, n they can help me with that....

i wanted to send the samples to avian biotech, but they are asking for some certifications n permits, to be sent along with the samples, which i dont have...n the vets are not helping much...

i wish i could get my bird to a proper avian vet, that would have made things so easy
Any suggestions?

The only one I know of is Avian Biotech. When you purchase birds from a breeder, bird centre or rescue they will give you a hatch certificate and vetenarian check paperwork which has screened the bird for all diseases. That's the problem that you're having I think- because the breeder would normally have such certificates, you're doing the job of the breeder which is making things difficult.

It's very difficult if you don't have an avian vet because there's so many different bird illnesses and blood test won't guarantee if there's anything wrong or not wrong with your bird. In the UK, we are able to send this off through the vets or via the post using our avian vet registration. I'm not sure it's the same for all in the UK but that's certainly the case for me.

We only have sent blood samples once- the rest of the time its feather or droppings. My avian vet prefers not to do blood tests on our cockatiels because it very stressful unless they sedated.

I'm sorry I'm not much help but at leat it may outline why you are having difficulties.

Thanx a lot for replying..!!! i did contact avian biotech, probably its their USA office which has strict certifications requirement for sending the samples...they r willing to take my samples without bird certificates in their uk branch so i have requested the sampling vials..lets c how it goes

im still in search of an avian vet..yes u r right, going to a regular vet didnt help much..at the moment all im hoping for is that my parrot wont need a vet any time soon
