There are other edible flowers too, I read an article on it in parrots magazine ages ago but I cant remember anything it said sorry :(

Thats fine, :) is there anything I should do (aside from washing it of course) before I give it to my :galah: ?

I haven't tried grapes yet. There's an idea. Thanks for mentioning that, paper_lantern. I've never tried pomegranate, either. I wasn't sure it was okay.

Marvin also loves sugar-free cornbread. You can buy an organic, chemical-free mix at many local health-food-type grocers.

If there are high-nutrient foods your bird won't touch, try baking them into something. I swear I do more baking for Marvin han I ever did for myself. When Marvin started eating a wider range of foods, he started to pooh-pooh his hard pellets so I watered them down, mashed them up, added a little cooked rice to keep them from re-hardening completely, and baked bird cookies. I have a ton in the freezer, and every day he gets a few pieces. Now he thinks his pellets are more like a treat than a staple. I try baking new things with nuts, grains, fruits and veggies all of the time now.

Marie is correct. The entire dandelion plant is good for them, especially the roots that are an excellent liver tonic and cleanser. Lamb's ear and sorrel are another two VERY good weeds for them.

As to other suggestions mine love blackberries, sugar cane, cantaloupe, ruby grapefruit, corn on the cob, yucca, mote and when it comes to grains, I would suggest you use oat groats. They are high in fiber, reduce cholesterol (and this is VERY important for pet parrots because they don't have any mechanism to get rid of cholesterol as their natural diet does not include any) and they make the brain produce, store and release serotonin (the happy hormone) as well as stabilize blood sugar.
