Corn on the cob

Raw? Cooked? Not at all?

It's that time of year and Marvin wants in. My cockatiel loved cooked corn on the cob but my boyfriend's vet discouraged it. ???

A little cooked corn on occasion is ok.

Is corn considered "unhealthy"? I feed mine corn from time to time and they absolutely love it!

I think it's less that it's unhealthy than that there's nothing healthy about it. It's basically empty calories. There's already a ton of it in pellets and other manufactured foods we feed them. No benefit to them from eating it other than the fact that they enjoy it. Therefore good in only the slightest moderation.

Ah, I will continue to put it into their fresh foods only on occasion then.

I only feed it on occassion, more as a toy than anything really. Gives a chance to pick and forage

Likewise, its an occassional thing but I've fed it cooked, raw and dried.
Fresh is best for nutritional measures and natural enzymes but since corn contains so nutritional value little anyway I wouldn't worry too much.

I never feed my birds dry corn but they get it cooked in the gloop every day AND they get corn on the cob (very slightly steamed) very often. Corn might not be the most nutritious veggie there is but parrots LOVE it (wild parrots can go through a crop of corn in a matter of hours) and its glycemic index is actually moderate so, all in all, it's not bad food for them.
