Rice, broccoli, and chili powder

Was a hit! I made pineapple sausage, wild/white rice plain, and steamed broccoli for dinner tonight. I always give Emmi a little of the bird safe part of our meal so broccoli bits and rice with chili powder on top. Perfect! She will just eat very quietly and let us eat in peace without us having to cover our plates with one hand to protect our food, while we try to eat with the other hand.

But no, she talked through the whole meal. She screamed and cooed and purred and closed her eyes. I think she almost wanted to roll in it if she would let herself. It was the best meal she's ever had EVER! I was only able to grab one picture because for the first time she turned food aggressive. She ran towards me with tail fanned, wings positioned for aerodynamic targeting, beak open and full of a scream you only hear on Halloween from a fake ghost in someone's yard. My husband got up to look and she ran after him too! We have NEVER taken food away from her. We gave her some of OUR food! My god, I buy her pellets and treats with my own money! She does not even have a bank account! What a little pig...won't even share! ;)

That picture says it all. Look in her eyes. She's about to go from "I'm just sitting here eating and singing to myself" to "THIS IS MINE! KEEP AWAY! YOU TAKE ONE BITE...I KILL YOU!" lol

So needless to say, we left her to the BEST MEAL EVER and listened to her happily talk to herself until she was full. Then she made her way down her cage and is now sleeping up-side-down on my chest.

I wonder what was so good? She's had chili powder before, rice too, and broccoli almost every day. We did feed her today! She was not starving! Lol

hello, i'm new on here and just saw your post, were u haveing trouble feeding your conure? or getting him/her to eat healthy? b/c i go through that w/ my nanday to eat fresh. he hates fresh foods! and 1 tricl that has worked so far is baked sweet potato-peeled,then pressed flat, on it i chop fresh brockli,carrots,1 hot pepper & 1 sweet pepper (all non cooked) then make lil' balls w/all vegies on inside, & roll em in oats,Quino, chiea, safflower &hemp seeds. stick 1 or 2 on a kabob & he goes nuts  i'm glad u got him/her to eat something yummy!! thought i'd share my lil' trick if you were having trouble getting good foods in

I'm not having any trouble. She eats most things I give her, but that is a great idea! She would love that! It's a foraging experience too. :)

Hmm, I will try this out with Peanut, my :gcc: She's never had pepper or broccoli or rice. I'm hoping she has a similar reaction to it or else. xD
Today I fed her some blueberries- I hadn't fed them to her in months due to the rest of my family devouring them- and for the fiirst time ever she started to attack my hand. She's never really full-out lashed at me but she puffed up her feathers and squawked! I left her alone to eat her berries (eat = pick them up and drop them onto the cage floor. )
Peanut - :gcc: Yellow-sided Green Cheeked Conure. Rest in peace, my Peanut.

They are so funny! I can take away any other dish of food and she won't care. But take away anything with berries or chilis...WATCH OUT! LOL
