do u have a go-to brand that u always use? i like to mix things up & make some of my own mixes, along w/ fresh whatever i can get/have @ the time. but i don't like pellets for my parrots, so i use Goldenfeast. They have a mix for anything. & my nanday won't eat fresh fruit (grrrrr) so i like the dehydrated fruits..

Well my pellet brand is Vetafarm, an Australian Avian Veterinary formulated brand. For seeds (Treats) I always use Trill (Another Australian brand??) and provide fresh vegetables. I dont think there are Roudybush, TOPS or Harrisons here down under :D

TOPS crumples for small hookbills (yes pellets but 100% organic and cold pressed with no artificial anything), I use a wide variety or organic (where possible) fruit and veg as well as 'table foods' like rice, pasta, hard boiled eggs. I make my own eggfood and birdie bread occassionally. Their seeds are Prestige cockatiel mix, I remove most of the sunflower seeds and then use these as treats by freezing them and defrosting at a later date. They eat everything including the vitamin pellets inside the mix so I'm happy with that for their seed portion.

I'm a Vetafarm person too! Actually, we have a bird store a few blocks from where I live (Sydney), and they recently started stocking Roudybush, so I've bought a small bag of it to try. And our avian vet sells Harrisons in small bags.

i know alotta ppl around the area that i live used to use tops. & ppl who still do like u do,w/ other fresh foods. In my area there are only 2 store that even cary Goldenfeast 1 is an hr away, it's not pellets, but it is all natrual,no added crap,no synthetics ect.. which is why i love it & there are all diffrent blends & mixes for all diffrent birds. there's a all vegie mix, a all friut mix, grass seed mix, conure mix, on & on... i just find that so many ppl don't even know about it :? . i have herd though that it is not sold in most other countries...but i would think that other countries then have mixes simmiler to Goldenfeast??

I haven't seen Goldenfeast in the UK... I'd like to at least try it if they did. I don't think even 100% organic things are even completely OK neither are organic fresh foods. The world we live in now has so many different things happening that even if you go organic on pellets, seeds and fresh there's no guarantees that somewhere or another there isn't a chemical or some form of artificial substance somewhere. Unless the organic fruits and veggies are grown in a bubble, watered with tripled filtered mineral water and promethically sealed. LOL

We just limit that by using things that are the least likely for that to happen. It seems good that they have released species specific ones. I know TOPS tested and developed theirs around cockatiels and smaller hookbills and then adapted this for a larger parrot size so they have the two different ones. They are quite different as I noticed when I accidentally bought the wrong size and smell and colour wise they seem a lot different as well as ingredient breakdown ratios. Anything in moderation as part of a wider balanced diet should be fine though so it would be interesting to see it put on shelves in the UK.

I'll look it up see if theres a bird centre or someone that carries it here in the UK. We have TidyMix which seems similar and Parrot Delictassen but not Goldenfeast.

I get all my seed mixes from ABBA and I get them directly from the manufacturing plant because I am obsessed with freshness (because of aspergillus and aflatoxin) plus I get wholesale prices.

The best my cockatiel's droppings ever looked was when he went on Roudybush pellets at the suggestion of my vet, so I just stuck with them for Marvin.

In addition to his fresh veggies and fruits, I pulverize and wet down the Roudybush pellets and mix/bake them with whole grains, brown rice, and nuts to make little balls like Nutriberries. I keep them frozen and let some thaw overnight before I feed. I like that they contain a little moisture.

He liked the small-size pellets on their own when he was first weaned, but now that he's eating with his feet he won't eat them and doesn't care for the hardness of the large ones.

Exactly- it sucks. I'm really going into growing my own veggies from seeds and stuff now so hopefully i can limit that even more. They still have a portion of pellets (TOPS) which not everyone agrees with but its been working for a long time so I'm OK with that till I can have constantly access to the fresh and organic things I need.
