soya milk

Postby aasiaafzal » Wed May 22, 2013 4:10 pm

I read a post a few days earlier mentioning the use of lactose free yoghurt to supplement calcium in the parrots diet....i couldnot find soya based yoghurt, but milk is available here...can i use that?? It is soya based lactose free milk, designed for human consumption....
If yes, are there any toxic preservatives i should be looking for?

Not 100% sure, personally I wouldn't give them soya milk unless it was only a 'very' small amount and it was mixed in with other foods. Most pet stores and ebay sells calcium blocks or perches for cheap prices...

Yeah Soy based products isn't good for birds. Lacto-free is totally different thing and even that it a very tiny amount mixed with other foods and VERY little in terms of how often its offered. There are also other ways of giving calcium through blocks (these must not be chewed excessively) and certainly NOT grit or gravel.

Also avoid water calcium supplements not only are these useless but they create bacteria in the water and can turn them off drinking water altogether.
