Potato?

Can parrots eat regular potatoes? If so, do they need to be cooked? And is it nutritious for them?

I believe that they can. However, I believe sweet potato is healthier and more readily accepted.

Mine have cooked potato occasionally. Less than once a fortnight though as its not the most nutritious thing.

It does have to be cooked otherwise I believe it causes problems with digestion because of the strach although might be wayyy of the mark there. Cooked it best but obviously not too hot so it burns. Its an occasional treat, even with sweet potato.

Thanks to you both! I feed yams to my parrot but wasn't sure about regular potatoes. Thanks again

It is a given, according to my AV, that all parrots love mashed potato. Alfie certainly does, and will eat plain boiled new potatoes too

It's ok once in a rare while as a treat. But a warning about mashed potatoes, as well as other warm mushy foods that you could have just as well coughed up for your bird, it can trigger hormonal feeding responses (like head bobbing, etc) so careful not to overstimulate.

I feed them baked potatoes in the skin which I slice once they are cold and sprinkle with extra virgin olive oil (rich in omega). They love them!
