worried that my parrotlet is sick

Postby jakefinley » Tue Jul 30, 2013 5:46 pm

hello guys i am worried that my parrotlet is sick what do i do? yesterday she seemed fine but this morning i woke up and 8. and she was still sleeping i have it so her light turns on at 8:30 but she is usually up before then. i have the cage in my room, so when i woke up at 8 i went over and she was in her usual sleeping spot with is heard to see her from my bed. so i got up went over to check on her and she didn't move i tapped on the cage and she looked at me. then closed her eyes it was also really hot in my room that night and so i had the windows open and by morning time it was really cold in my room. also i notice her droppings were real water this morning it. and also doesn't look like shes been eating much, no as the day has gone by i have fully cleaned the cage and all surroundings it seem like her droppings are becoming less watery. but she is all puffed up when i go in my room and shes on one foot. So what do you guys think is she sick?

It's impossible to say. How are her droppings now? Who is looking after her & can they take her to the vet?

Well if it were my bird I would be cancelling my trip but thats just me. Birds can go downhill too quickly as usually that have been sick before begin to notice any symptoms.

Is this a proper Avian Vet? He doesn't sound terrifically sure of himself.

Its good you got her somewhere straight away but I would book an appointment at an avian specialist as well. Normal vets or even tropical vets know very little about birds. You've done your best for now but if there's another place with an actual AV book there, also if you say its an emergency or she's had watery poop for a number of days they will probably give you an emergency appointment. They have to, its animal welfare. She's got medicine and at least sounds if she's getting better but its important to get seen by an AV specialist anyway, at 30 days of ownership, 6 months and then 1 year off there after.

Also is it bird specific medicine? The medicine could be causing watery poops too by reaction. Also make sure you keep an eye on the weight, if it continues to go down insist they see her again.
