Mia bumped her nose ;-( HELP

Postby Eric&Rebecca » Mon Aug 05, 2013 3:21 pm

I was just changing Mia's water and I must have moved to quick and she went flying around the cage really fast and she's bumped her nose. It was bleeding! Like not dripping but enough to make me cry... it's right in the middle of the ceres not on them. I can't believe I rescued her less than a week ago, I've kpet her in the cage now to stop this and now she's had an accident. It stopped bleeding as soon as I cleaned it up. I used warm water and just wiped the blood off. She seems fine and not in too much pain, I had to hold her in a towel though (I know I know I shouldn't but I haven't been able to train her well enough yet.)

I am going to call the vet first thing there was no AV available at the emergency vets! I feel so awful I should know to move slower when replacing the water.... I feel so guilty and awful. I was trying to stop her thrashing and she just made it worse and worse ;-(

It doesn't look too bad now I've cleaned it up. I was already worried about her enough and now this... I feel like a real failure as a parront at the moment.

You're not. You are one of the most dedicated owners I know of, so dont blame yourself.

I think toweling her was a good move, in emergencies you do what you have to and if they get a grudge from it so be it, at least you can work on that with taming etc. I would keep a close eye on it, to see that it's closed properly and dont start again. Otherwise there's not much you can do other than making sure she get's fluids.

Unless she starts bleeding again, I dont think you have to worry!

It's not started again and she's perching fine. I've covered her up and turned the lights down just to keep her calm. I cleaned it up and I'm going to call AV first thing in the morning, I managed to speak to an exotics vet who said to just keep an eye on her. This is exactly what I was afraid of :-/

She wouldn't stop flapping around and I could see what she had done. Luckily it SEEMS to be just between the nose not on a cere but I still feel the need to go to an AV soon as poss.

She will be fine, she is just not used to having room to move round properly, the cage probably feels like a mansion to her after her last one. You don't need to feel guilty or blame yourself.

It was just the between the nostrils? I cleaned her up and it stopped bleeding quite quickly. I did eventually speak wth an exotics vet... not avian I know but she said not to worry unless she has trouble breathing, eating, drinking...

Just looked really bad at first!

Her nose is fine this morning... far more superficial than I thought. She was hopping around and chirping although still a little nervous. HOWEVER, she's still not eating as much as I'd like. She ate a lot the first day I got her but since she has eaten but not quite as much as I'd to see. How long do you think it will take her to start eating more?

LOL - She'll be fine! Don't worry so much, it was, most likely, just a little scratch.
