The way I look at it, you might as well get all the stress inducing activities (trip home and vet) over and done with in one shot. Why stress the bird out today, let it get comfortable and then stress it out again?

I asked the breeder a couple of hours ago, and she felt that it would be too much for Skeeter to do it all in one day. In her words, "His mind might explode."

So we've rescheduled it so he'll come home with us on a Friday, then get checked over by the avian vet the following Tuesday. I really hope it won't be too stressful, to settle a bit then go out into the big bad world again for blood work, etc. We'll try to make his double homecoming as calm and stimulus-overload-free as possible, and hope for the best...

"His mind might explode"?! LOL- I've had to take a bird to the vet once a week for 3 months for an XRAY, and this was a bird that had two surgeries done over this period plus change from external fixator to cast on her broken leg and her mind did not explode. Birds are more resilient than that and their minds are not that fragile, either...

But do what makes you feel more comfortable. He will survive either way and there will be no lasting effect to it (maybe a bit grumpy and tired when he's back from the vet but back to normal in a matter of hours).

I agree with this. I personally think Skeeter would be fine to do it all in one day, but do what you feel is best and what you're most comfortable with. Either way, you're already proving to be a great parront to Skeeter, and I'm really excited and happy for you both. ^^

Thanks so much for the assurance, Pajarita and GreenWing. :D I personally don't think his mind would explode, per se, but since she's had more experience with him (he's been in the shop for about two years) I felt a bit obliged to respect her gut feeling.
