Introducing pellets

Postby NHCardinal » Sat Aug 10, 2013 8:24 am

I am attempting to switch my lovie's diet over to pellet, but she's not taken to it. I did a half and half mixture to help with the transition, but all she does is dig into the trough, find the seeds and just eat those. Should I just wait it out until she starts eating the pellets or was I moving too quickly with a half/half mix?

Actually, lovies don't do well pellets. I know a couple of people who show them and they don't feed them pellets at all (and not because they are more expensive because they have a special blend made for them that cost an arm and a leg).

Try using the pellets as treats for training. Your lovebird should think of them as treat and take a liking to them. Then it might value them over seeds.

Pajarita- Sorry, I'm not sure I understood your post right, are you saying that Lovebirds can't eat pellets? (In which case, forget what I have said about how to introduce them)
